"Imagine a city where graffiti wasn't illegal, a city where everybody drew whatever they liked. Where every street was awash with a million colours and little phrases. Where standing at a bus stop was never boring. A city that felt like a party where everyone was invited, not just the estate agents and barons of big business. Imagine a city like that and stop leaning against the wall - it's wet. “ - Banksy

it was bloody cold.

"Where are we? What the hell is going on?"

Why is everything so shitty? The last half of this year has been the worst of my life. So much has happened and I don't know how to cope with it. My granddad just died, and nana has been diagnosed with cancer and is staying with us over Christmas while she has radiation treatment. I don't know what to expect, and how it's going to affect her. Then all the other stuff, like school and friends and guys. All the nice cliches there. Did everything really have to happen all at once? At least I had an awesome time at the zoo with Alex.

"A man's library is a sort of harem." - Ralph Waldo Emerson, The Conduct of Life, 1860

"To those with ears to hear, libraries are really very noisy places. On their shelves we hear the captured voices of the centuries-old conversation that makes up our civilization." - Timothy Healy

Wellington City Library used to be like a second home to me. I visited every weekend, walking away with vast amounts of books, certainly more than I could read in the next three weeks. I had my special kiddy card with a rocket ship on it that held a record of every single book I had ever issued and read and revelled in. My arms would ache as I dragged armloads of fantasy and thrills to heave into the car. I've always been insanely susceptible to motion sickness but I'd force my stomach to endure it, for the sake of Harry Potter, Molly Moon, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Falling Leaves. I would read for days on end.
I don't know what happened, but one way or another I stopped hanging out at this haven. To be perfectly honest with you, I actually almost forgot it existed for a couple of years. The rest of my family would still go all the time but I never particularly wanted to. It's flippin' nuts!
Anyho, about five days ago I decided it was probably a good idea to start studying for exams as I'd already had three of them and chemistry was in a few days. My house is always loud and ruckus and vibrant and filled with yelling screeching yodeling dancing shooting kung-fu-ing 6 year olds and 11 year olds and 13 year olds and 47 year olds, and trying to study there is like trying to get rid of Russell Brands sex addiction - possible, but really, why bother? Russell Brand is not the same without his deviant ways, and the study you remember pretty much just consists of the first page, and how to successfully drag three hyperactive small people out of your room in one go.
So I went to the library.
I found myself a nice little closed off desk, surrounded by other motivating fellow studyers and began. I got through half of Structure and Bonding when some dodgy Indonesian guys started talking to me and asking me where I live and go to school and how old I am etcetc and moving their chairs closer. It was not cool. So I went upstairs to find somewhere else to study. And it was like a whole new world! The only other time in my life I'd been up there was when I got lost and was searching for mum about 9 years ago. There was an entire level dedicated to art and architecture and magazines and CDs! And above that a quiet study floor filled with law and history - I was gobsmacked and completely pissed off with myself for not realising this earlier. I found a fantastic place to study, next to some guy meditating, and stayed til 8pm.
Wellington City Library is basically one of the most amazing places in the CBD, so embrace your inner nerd and come visit me at my second home.

Bluejuice - Broken Leg

Walking around on broken leg
But I can't get you outta my head
I can't get you outta my head
What was that I heard you say?
Well they don't want to know me!

First day of my life.

This is the first day of my life
I swear I was born right in the doorway
I went out in the rain suddenly everything changed
They're spreading blankets on the beach.

My genius mind.

I'm feeling really overwhelmed at the moment. My brain is so cluttered, it feels like I have got the entire universe and all its worry squished into it. There is so much going on and I am being so indecisive which is unlike me. My problem is that when there is so much to organise, and think about, and study for, and plan, and practice, and rah de dah, I take it as a divine opportunity to do nothing. It's probably the most useless and stressful thing I could possibly do. But that's my genius mind for you! "Overwhelmed" kinda sucks. If I tried to tell you how I feel at this very moment I wouldn't be able to, because when I'm like this I try to just completely ignore my other feelings. If I didn't I would go loopy and become a druggy and part-time Vivian Street worker and homeless man and alcoholic and join some hardcore gang and quit school fo lyf.

Word to your mother.

Holy Moly - Motocade.

Motocade is a brilliant New Zealand band! Their music is kinda like The Strokes and early Kings of Leon stuff - in other words, awesome. Oh and they make cool music videos.

I don't want
the keys to the kingdom.
Just the devil and me,
and the deep blue sea.
The hot cold weather,
pushes us together,
pulls me apart.

Holy moly,
I feel like I am possessed.
Holy moly,
Look at me I'm dancing like a zombie!
Holy moly,
I feel like I am possessed.
Holy moly,
Look at me I'm coming back to life!

Benevolent Buskers.

I love Cuba Street. I love good music. It stands to reason that I love the people on Cuba street who busk. Music in a beautiful place adds an entire new dimension and gives it this rich and fulfilling atmosphere. Without these gutsy buskers Cuba Street would not be the same. If you're one of the people walking by as someone's playing, stop for a moment. Listen to the music. Embrace the music! Even if it's insanely shoddy. Which it usually isn't. And if you fancy, give them a donation. THESE BRILLIANT PEOPLE ARE PART OF WHAT MAKE THIS PLACE WHAT IT IS! Love them man.

Also, we've had some pretty epic busking moments too. KISS, played live on these streets. What does that tell you?

I've just discovered this amazing song.

Enough for me is not much for you
Won't you forgive me that's all I can do
Can you feel my heartbeat
When I'm close to you

I'll never find another way to say
I love you more each day
It's quite romantic I know
That's how I wanna feel today...
I wanna feel this way

Can you feel my heartbeat
When I'm close to you

I'll never find another way to say
I love you more each day
It's quite romantic I know
That's how I wanna feel today
I wanna feel this way, today

Can you feel my heartbeat
Can you feel my heartbeat
Can you feel my heartbeat
When I'm close to you

I'll never find, no I'll never find
Another way to say
I love you more each day

yeah?

Don't get me wrong, change is brilliant, yeah? But sometimes I just want things to slow down, not change so fast, and go back to how they used to be. It's funny how damn quickly a few months can go by.

Sculpt a better world.

I'm tired as a douchebag who has not gone to sleep til 3am for the past three nights.
It is currently 12.38am on Saturday morning. mmm two tiny little days until school starts again. summer uniform though, for four weeks. and then i never have to wear uniform again. it is beautiful. and also completely sobering to the fact that i don't have much school left.
It's a bit freaky, really! next year we get to wear mufti so that means that pretty much that whole year i won't feel like i'm actually doing work. or at least that's what i like to think. plus i'm taking fabby subjects - english, art history, statistics, biology, and sculpture. Yes i am dropping physics and chemistry and painting and music, what is the world coming to! sculpture is going to be exciting. we get to do anything we want, absolutely anything. and the best bit is that our art then isn't restricted to one tiny piece of paper. The world is my sculpture, my oyster of awesomeness! so far i know that my sculpture is going to have lots of paint on it.

And i'm looking forward to hanging out with oscar. he seems like a cool fullah. also i will then find out if his middle name is actually daisy. if it is, that is brilliant.
and i can assure him that my ears are ear stretcher free.
i have a picture on my wall of this guy who thinks he's real hot and from far away it looks like he just has massive earrings on, but then you look closer and you realise that they are just massive mofo ear stretchers. yum.

P.S. to the weather gods. because you love me, waggle your magic fingers and make it sunshine down on me at least until march next year, and the 19th of December. much appreciated.

P.P.S. i think that some people are not aware of what it means to be a human. as in they just spend the vast majority of their time doing things which don't matter or worrying about things that are so unbelievabley unimportant. there are so many of these people, it's like a new sub-species of human. i like people who i can have proper conversations with! and learn something new from them, that's not just gossip. i love it when people create controversy and really get you thinking. it's so much more interesting than hearing how wasted someone got in the weekend at some whorey party whilst wearing uggboots and having sex with ten billion people who were all equally trashed and oh look at all their photos of their "coolness".

P.P.P.S. goodnight. if i don't go to sleep now i will end up being the last person up and have to turn off all the lights.

Mmmm my dog is so...attractive.

Why do people choose to shave fluffy little puppies into shaved poodle-like rats? What unbeatable incentive is there to commit such a crime - Russel Brand's hand in marriage? Big Day Out tickets? A party in the TARDIS? See, mum is already married, too old for BDO, and not as avid a Doctor Who fan as she should be.

WHYYYYYYYYYY.

Though i didn't particularly like him anyway. Infact, his cuteness annoyed me. I used to look at him and just think, "Oh! everyone is going to love you despite your spastic dancing and how you spend hours trying to eat your own tail. Fooool."
I think now this is just going to be a really good opportunity for everyone to take a step back and give him a long hard stare as he sits quivering, no longer safe in the mindset that he is cute and adorable. His fluffy ears are gone.
This is a fantastic opportunity to get to know the real Snowy. Go on. No more mister cutey. Feel my wrath.

"ex speed freak. personal hygiene problem. kiddie frightener. shoplifter. heavy smoker." - murdoc.

finally. the wait it over. i honestly couldn't believe it when i found out. the elusive, mysterious, and fucking fantastic Gorillaz are coming to nz in december. hell, i've never even seen a real picture of them, only the comic book characters that make up this "virtual band" - 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs.
the band started in 1998 and their first album 'Gorillaz' came out in 2001 followed by 'demon days' in 2005. from those two they sold over 20 million albums.
that's a helluva lot. these guys are really good. i've listened to them for the past six years and somehow i'm not sick of them.
anyway.
THEY ARE COMING TO NZ IN DECEMBER. ALSO THAT IS WHEN MY BIRTHDAY IS. IT IS FATE.
sososo. tickets go on sale 9.00am friday 6th of august aka tomorrow yo and they're playing in auckland at the vector arena. sadly not wellington...

and not only are the Gorillaz playing, but also Bashy, De La Soul, Mick Jones, & Paul Simmons (The Clash), Kano, Little Dragon, Mos Def, National Orchestra for Arabic Music, Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), Shaun Ryder (Happy Mondays), and Bobby Womack.

211 Cuba Street, 04 916 2020

This is the heart of wellington style.
Glassons, Supre, JayJays, they honestly don't cut it anymore. Their clothes are so entirely mainstream most people can barely stand it. And places like Good As Gold and Paris Texas are stunning but bloody expensive. So where do all of the fantastically dressed uni students spend their hard earned, small amounts of income when it comes to clothes buying? Recycle Boutique, and not to mention the copious other number of op shops scattered throughout Wellington. This shop is great, because as well as being exciting, ever-changing, it's also a form of income for people with large, unwanted, vintage wardrobes in dire need of change.
Basically you go through your wardrobe, pulling out the bits that you don't want anymore and take it to 211 Cuba in a big bag. They sell them for you and take half the profits. Any unsold items either go to charity, or are recollected by you. Win/win man. Recycle Boutique ends up with a huge variety of clothes ranging from $4.50 to several hundred dollars. Shop here, truly, it's fab.
Love Lu.

Espressoholic.

For all those cuba street dwellers and lovers. I know that I am one of them, dwell there by day, lovers by night.
It's just that Cuba Street is exciting. When I first saw the bucket fountain I was utterly mesmerised, sitting on its brick edge, oblivious to the fact that I was about to get completely soaked in only moments. And even once I discovered this, I still didn't care. I was about 8 years old and in love.
Now I still walk past it almost every weekend even though the novelty is wearing off. That's pretty impressive though - 8 years for the excitement of the bucket to begin to dwindle! BUT. I've discovered a new hangout. It's just up a bit further and called Espressoholic. It has theeee most cruisy and perfect atmosphere that you could really ask for in a cafe. I've only been once, so far. It was Saturday night at about 10pm and we were looking for somewhere where we could get a delish, cheap, cappuccino and eats. We stepped in and felt a rush of warm air and a friendly bubble of chatter. There were plenty of seats and it even had an outdoor area. By about 10.30 Espressoholic was a thriving social session and the caramel slice had been heaven. Once again, I was, am, in love.

Joe Dempsie is sexy

Spent lunch trying to figure out where each one of our friends would be in five, ten years time. The first pregnant, the first to leave, the richest, the most successful, the solo mum, the crazy aunt, the MILF, the druggy...
Honestly it keeps on freaking me out because I can see exactly what all my friends are gonna be doing but I've got no idea about myself! I feel like Chris off skins. Or maybe Anwar. Except that I won't smoke, screw, rob, and snort anything and I'm not Muslim. But still.
How does everyone even decide?????????

Premier thoughts

For the majority of my sixteen years in this in this world I have somehow managed to spend my time in Wellington, the most vibrant and fabulous place created. I'm not entirely sure how I achieved it, but I did, and only hours ago I felt a sudden urge to declare this to the universe. I wanted everyone to know about this secret place, the capital of two small islands below Australia and be able to feel the excitement, the flurry, the colour, the tranquility, the taste, the texture, and the individuality of it. A blogspot was the only way to go. Plus I figured it was a good way to get me totally exploring Wellington, to cram in as much as I can before I eventually leave here. I'm going to try and delve into every belle place around town, seeking out the beauty and funk, taking amazing photos and writing in this blog to prove it.
Not to mention that it will be utterly mixed in with my life and what's going on. I'm going to have a lot of fun with this I think...
